Work Rights Campaign Launch

Minister Burke, Let People Work!

Join the campaign to protect work rights for people seeking asylum.

When we fall on hard times, the right to work is essential.

But right now, people seeking asylum are denied the right to work and study while they wait years for protection decisions, leaving them unable to support themselves and contribute their skills. Tony Burke, the Minister for Home Affairs, can change this today - all he needs is the political will.

Join the ASRC’s campaign launch at Trades Hall to learn about what we can do to restore this fundamental right for everyone in our communities.

Hear powerful perspectives from people with lived experience, alongside union leaders and employers who are ready to hire people seeking asylum.

Speakers include:
Abbas Ghezzy - Work Rights Advocate, former asylum seeker
Matt Murphy - National Assistant Secretary, Electrical Trades Union
