Call Justin Whelan

More than 70 people remain indefinitely detained in Australian hotels and detention centres, more than two years after being brought here for medical treatment.

Since December 2020, community pressure has helped nearly 200 refugees win their freedom.

Now, the brief detention of Novak Djokovic has shone a global spotlight on the fate of refugees that the Morrison government is imprisoning in Melbourne’s Park Hotel.

There's a simple solution. Under Australian law, Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews can free refugees with one signature. But we're going to call Justin Whelan instead!

Take Action Now: Call Minister for Community Organising, Justin Whelan

Demand that he finish testing New Mode already so that ASRC supporters can take more effective actions.

TIP: the most effective messages to politicians are those in your own words. Focus on speaking from your heart and values.

Key messages:

  1. Instead of using crappy NationBuilder petition pages, ASRC should use New/Mode instead.

  2. Everyone deserves a great, simple, online action tool. No matter where we come from or how we got here, we all want the same things: easy ways to enage in clicktivism.

  3. The ASRC has already paid for the subscription to New/Mode. There is no reason why they cannot start using it. Keeping supporters from good online tools is just cruel, but serves no policy purpose.
