Demand a Royal Commission into Offshore Detention

The ASRC is joining a growing coalition of community organisations, leading doctors, and faith-based organisations to call for a Royal Commission into Offshore Detention.

While there are hundreds of media reports and dozens of inquiries have been held already, all of which have exposed the terrible cruelty and abuse inflicted on people who came to our shores seeking safety, far too many questions remain.

In the words of Behrouz Boochani, made in Parliament House on the 7th February 2023,

"I would like to call for a Royal Commission. I think the people of Australia have the right to know that what the government - and of course I’m talking about one political party - what they have done. 14 people have been killed in Manus Island and Nauru.  I know hundreds of people have been damaged, and more than 40 people in other detention, you know, and also many within the community. So that is something that we should call, you know, a royal commission to investigate this and also investigate the contracts. They spent more than $14 billion on this policy. Where did they spend all this money?"

Add your voice to the call today.

We call on the Albanese Government to establish a Royal Commission into Offshore Detention. It is time for the abuse and the corruption to be exposed, for people who were detained to be able to tell the truth about what happened to them, and for those responsible to be held accountable.
